LOOM · LATEST VERSION
LOOM 1.5.1
Released October 19, 2026. If the copy you are running shows an older number under LOOM › About LOOM, this is the one to download.
What's new in 1.5.1
Fixed
- During an overdub, the small word under the ring reads
→ PLAY. It read→ OVERDUB, but pressing the ring ends the overdub and the track plays. See The ring.
Updating
Download, drag it into Applications, and replace the copy that is there. Your licence file is not touched — it lives outside the app, so an update never asks you to enter anything again.
Previous builds
Kept so an old build stays reachable at a permanent address. Unless you are pinning a specific version, take the latest above — it is the one both download buttons on the LOOM page give you.

⇧⌘M, or pressOPEN MIDI MAPPINGin the side panel to map a note or control change from your hardware to a control in LOOM. Your mappings work on top of the built-in layout, which keeps working underneath. See MIDI mapping. - To add a mapping, press
+ ADD MAPPING, choose the control in LOOM, then move or press the control on your hardware. The card shows what LOOM heard and proposes a type:BUTTON,SWITCH,CONTROLLERorRELATIVE. PressUSEto add it. - Before you press
USE, the card names any mapping of yours that the new oneREPLACES, and any built-in note or controller number itOVERRIDES.⌘Zand⇧⌘Zundo and redo changes to the mapping table. KEEP INchooses where a mapping lives.RIGkeeps it for every song on this machine, andTHIS SONGsaves it with the song, where it wins over a rig mapping on the same message.- The chooser's
MAPPING ONLYgroup lets you map the built-in commands,NEXT TRACKandPREVIOUS TRACK, controls that act on the focused track, andNEXT PRESETandPREVIOUS PRESETfor racks, effect slots and instruments. - The window's monitor lists every MIDI message LOOM receives and what it did with it: the control a mapping set,
BUILT-IN,UNBOUND,REFUSEDorWAITING. The table'sSTATEcolumn says when a mapping isINERTin the song you have open, and why. - Built-in controller numbers for the mixer. On the command channel, CC 20 to 29 move each track's level, CC 40 to 49, 50 to 59 and 70 to 79 move its
CUE,FX 1andFX 2sends, and CC 80 to 89 switch its mute. CC 102 switches the click on and off, CC 103 sets the click level, and CC 104 sets the master level. They need no mapping. TAKEOVER, in the side panel'sMIDIsection, chooses how a knob or fader takes over a control that is somewhere else.PICKUP, the default, waits until your hardware reaches LOOM's value.JUMPmoves the control straight to the hardware, andSCALEmoves it toward the hardware so both reach the end of the range together.- While a control waits to pick up, a hollow ring on the knob or a dashed outline in the fader's track shows where your hardware is, and the notice row tells you which way to move it.
MIDI OUT, in the side panel, sends each track's state and the values of its faders, sends and mutes to the MIDI output you choose. Pads on your controller light to show what each track is doing, and motorised or on-screen faders follow LOOM. See MIDI feedback.- A TouchOSC layout for iPad,

It works with LOOM's default MIDI settings, so you have nothing to map. - The click is automatable. In the arrange view, add a lane on

- The
BLOCK SIZEchip in the side panel'sAUDIO DEVICEsection chooses how many frames of audio LOOM processes at a time. It offers the sizes your audio device accepts, starts at 128, and marks sizes below 64(not recommended). Changing it restarts the audio engine, so LOOM warns you first if any track holds a loop. LOOM remembers the size for this Mac, not in the song. See The BLOCK SIZE chip. - The first free loop of a song sets the tempo on an instrument track too. Record it with
LENGTHset to free and both quantize settings set to immediate, and closing it sets the song's tempo from the length you played. The loop is retimed to the new tempo, so it plays as you played it. See The first free loop sets the tempo.
Fixed
- The compressor's, the gate's and the transparent drive's pictures left an empty band between the picture and the controls. The pictures now fill their panel, and the amp's drive picture is as tall as the tone stack beside it.
- In the synth editor, the dot on a
FILTER ENVorAMP ENVdisplay could ride above the drawn envelope, or slide down a line that was not drawn when you let go of a note early. The dot now stays on the drawn shape and moves through each part at that part's rate.

- Choose or replace an effect from the slot. In the effect drawer, the open slot has a small arrow button that opens the chooser in place of the effect's controls. The chooser lists every effect in groups (
UTILITY,DYNAMICS,DRIVE & TONE,PITCH & MODandSPACE), each with a line saying what it does, and you can type to search by name or by what the effect does. Choosing an effect for a filled slot replaces it in the same place in the chain, with a short fade rather than a click, and⌘Zputs the previous effect back with all of its settings. See Choosing or replacing an effect. - Each slot in the effect drawer shows a small picture of its effect and a short name, such as
PARA EQ,COMPorTRANSP. An empty slot reads+ ADDand opens the chooser. - The effect drawer works from the keyboard. Each slot is its own
Tabstop, the open slot's arrow button is the stop after it, and every effect in the chooser is aTabstop after the search field. See The keyboard. - You can add the tuner to a bus. There it listens to what is sent to that bus.
- The gain stage, the transparent drive, the amp, the cab, the delay, the reverb, the chorus, the octave and the harmony each show a picture above their controls, and the picture changes as you move a control.
- On the cab's picture, drag the
LOW CUTandHIGH CUThandles to move the cuts. The knobs below move with them. - Live readings from your signal while you play:
- The compressor shows its gain reduction on a
GRbar, and the last four seconds of the level going in and coming out. - The noise gate shows the last two seconds of the level going in and coming out, with a strip that shows the gate opening and closing.
- The gain stage measures how the left and right sides relate, and reads
OUT OF PHASEwhen they would cancel in mono. - The octave names the note it is following, such as
HEARD A2 · 110 Hz. - The harmony's keyboard shows the note it is holding and lights each voice on the note it is singing.
- The reverb's tail glows with the room's level at the output, and the chorus shows where each voice is right now.
- When there is nothing to measure, because the slot is bypassed, the signal is silent or no audio device is open, the reading is left empty and says so, for example
NO SIGNAL.
- The compressor shows its gain reduction on a
- The synth editor has a full-screen layout. When the window is large enough, such as full screen on a 16-inch MacBook Pro, every control is on one page in four columns that follow the signal: Sources, Filter, Amp and voice, and Modulation. See Instrument tracks.
- The synth's displays follow what it is playing. A green light after a display's label marks a live picture, and beside it is a value no knob shows, such as the cutoff the filter is using, or the envelope's stage and level.
- The synth has stepped knobs for named settings, such as an LFO's
SHAPEor the arpeggiator'sRATE. On a stepped knob, the arrow keys move one setting andPage UpandPage Downmove four. - The
CPUreadout on the bottom rail now works. It shows how much of each block's time LOOM uses to process its audio, asp50andp99over the last 5 seconds, and turns amber whenp99passes 80%. See The bottom rails.
Changed
- The effect controls are redesigned. A control that runs through a range is a knob,
WETandDRYare two knobs underMIX, a two-state setting is a chip with its name and a light, and longer lists such as the delay'sDIVISIONand the harmony'sSCALEare grids of cells. DROPOUTSis no longer on the bottom rail. Dropouts and near misses are written to the session log, which you open withLOG, andCPUturning amber warns you while you play.- A new delay or reverb opens with
WETat 50%, so you hear it as soon as you add it. It opened at 0%. - The reverb's room is louder. At
WET100%, a medium room with a 2-secondDECAYcomes out at about the level of a sustained sound you play into it. When you open a song, an effect preset or a rack saved with an earlier version, LOOM halves each reverb'sWET, including its automation, so it sounds as it did. A song saved with this version and opened in an earlier one plays its reverbs about 6 dB quieter.
Fixed
- New Song left the loops on instrument tracks in the new song, and when only instrument tracks held loops it gave no warning. It now clears them, and the warning before New Song, Open Song and a device change lists an instrument track that holds a loop by its label, such as
I1. See Dialogs. - An EQ on an instrument track or a bus drew no spectrum behind its curve. It now draws the signal there, as it does on tracks, inputs and the master.
- Choose or replace an effect from the slot. In the effect drawer, the open slot has a small arrow button that opens the chooser in place of the effect's controls. The chooser lists every effect in groups (

VOICEsection with glide and unison, and an arpeggiator. It comes with factory presets, and you can save your own. - The drum machine, with its parts, kits, and a pattern grid on the
PATTERNtab. The grid is the track's loop: a hit you play appears in it, and a step you add plays, even while the loop is playing. Load a factory pattern or save your own. - The sampler. Press

The mixer, the arrange view and recording
- The mixer's
INSTRUMENTSbank, on key2, has a strip for each instrument track withPAN, a fader,MUTE,SOLOand a slot grid for effects. See The mixer. - In the arrange view, each instrument track has its own row and takes
REC,DUBandPLAYregions. APLAYregion marks each note of the track's loop. - Automation lanes for instrument tracks:
INPUT,PRESET,PATTERNon a drum track, and the instrument's own controls, such as the synth'sCUTOFF. See The arrange view. - To record an instrument onto an audio track, open the audio track's
TRACKpanel and switch on the instrument's row underINSTRUMENTS · AFTER FX, BEFORE FADER. The take lines up with the loop exactly. - Tick an
INSTrow in Record setup andRECORDwrites that instrument track to its own file, such asInstrument 1.wav. An instrument track can also go in aPLAYBACKgroup.
Changed
- The MIDI command map has a new layout with room for the instrument tracks. Track 1 starts at note 0, the instrument tracks start at note 72, and the globals sit at notes 120 to 125. If your controller is set up for LOOM 1.0, choose
1.0 layoutwithMIDI MAPin theGLOBALpanel. DROPOUTSon the bottom rail counts the dropouts macOS reports. It used to read0whatever happened. Now it turns amber after a dropout and stays amber until you click it, and the click opens the session log at the first dropout. See The bottom rails.- With
PING PONGon, the delay's repeats die away evenly as they move from side to side. Before, a centred sound's repeats on the right were much quieter than the ones on the left. - ⌥-click or

- Automation lanes in the arrange view. A lane changes one control while the arrangement performs: an effect slot's bypass, a strip's
LEVEL,PANorMUTE, an effect's controls, or which preset or rack a chain loads. Only a performance moves a lane. See the arrange view. - New effects: the noise gate, the chorus, the octave, the cab and the amp. See the mixer.
- Racks and presets. Save a whole effect chain as a rack, or one effect's settings as a preset, from the
RACKandPRESETbars in the effect drawer, and load them on any strip. LOOM ships factory racks and presets alongside your own. - The delay's

⌘Zand⇧⌘Zundo and redo adding, removing, moving and bypassing effects, loading a rack or preset, and each drag on a control. - Move an effect to another slot in the effect drawer: drag it, or press
M, move with the arrow keys and pressMagain. - Performance recording. The
RECORDbutton in the top bar writes one WAV file for each stream you tick in File ▸ Record Setup…, into a new folder in your recordings folder. If the disk falls behind, LOOM fills the gap with silence and lists it inMarkers.txt. See the top bar. - Groups. On the mixer's
MASTERbank, theROUTINGpage sums several inputs, or several loop tracks and buses, into one stereo file when you record. - Right-click a region in the arrange view, or
Control-click it, to change its verb from its menu. - The arrange view scrolls vertically when its rows are taller than the window, by scrollbar, wheel or two-finger swipe.
Changed
- The
VERBrow and theVkey choose only what the next region fires. TheVERBrow no longer changes the selected region; use the region's menu for that. - The panel toggle in the top bar, left of the
VIEWswitcher, shows and hides the side panel on every view. It replaces theHIDE PANELbutton in the globals row. ALL START,ALL STOP,ALL CLEARand each track'sCLEARkeep their word when they cannot act, and are drawn with a dashed border instead. They used to change to words such asNO LOOPSandNOTHING TO CLEAR.- Track meters, in the looper view and the mixer, and the master meter have two bars, left and right.
- Labels on buttons, tabs and settings, and every number, are set in JetBrains Mono. Text you read as language is set in Archivo.
Fixed
- After an overdub, the take under it dropped out of the right channel. Both layers now play on both channels.
- Effects on the master strip did nothing when your main mix was on outputs other than 1 and 2. They now process the main mix wherever you send it.
- The metronome click went to outputs 1 and 2 even when your main mix was on other outputs, so you could not hear it. It now follows the main mix.
- Save As… moved the recorded audio out of the song you saved from, so that song opened with silent tracks. It now copies the audio and leaves the original song as it was. See where your recordings live.
- If you opened a song, cleared its tracks and saved it, the takes came back the next time you opened it. A track you clear now saves as empty.
- In a song you had just opened, the effects buses, their effects and the cue were silent until you moved a fader or changed another setting, so the first move seemed to switch an effect on. They now play as soon as the song opens.
- Switching a delay back in after a bypass clicked one delay time later, and adding a reverb or switching it back in could click. Neither clicks now.
- In an arrangement, a
DUBregion straight after anotherDUBregion played instead of recording a new layer. EachDUBregion now records its own layer. - Selecting or dragging a long region in the arrange view scrolled the view back to the region's start, so you could not work on its right edge.
