LOOM 1.2.0 MANUAL

LOOM User Manual

This is the manual for LOOM 1.2.0, a live looper for Mac. It covers every control in the order you meet it on screen, starting with how to record your first loop.

  1. Welcome to LOOMOpen your audio interface, hear your input and record your first loop in LOOM, a live looper for Mac with audio and MIDI instrument tracks.
  2. Keyboard shortcutsEvery keyboard shortcut in LOOM: the menu bar, the main window, faders, pan, mute and solo, the effect slots, the tempo field and the record ring.
  3. MIDI mappingThe MIDI notes that run every LOOM track and the transport. Set up a foot controller or pad controller to record, overdub, stop, undo and clear loops.
  4. PrivacyLOOM collects nothing and makes no network calls. It never calls home, checks your licence online or fetches anything, so venue WiFi never matters.
  5. The windowHow the LOOM window is laid out, the words the manual uses precisely, how to play the arrangement, and what accessible means in LOOM.
  6. The top barLOOM's top bar: the song, the transport, RECORD, TEMPO, the click and beat LEDs, the bar, beat and tick position, and the view switcher.
  7. The globals row and the track stripsHow LOOM's loop tracks work: the ring that shows what your next press will do, record and overdub, quantized start and stop, undo, and the globals row.
  8. The arrange viewDraw REC, DUB and PLAY regions on a timeline and LOOM's looper plays the song for you. Automate faders, effects, instruments and whole FX racks.
  9. The mixerLOOM's mixer: banks, the MAIN, CUE, FX 1 and FX 2 fader destinations, eight insert slots per strip, the built-in effects, presets, racks and routing.
  10. The side panelThe side panel's GLOBAL, TRACK and SONG tabs: input routing, quantize, record modes, loop length and the settings each song and track starts with.
  11. The bottom railsThe notice line and status rail at the bottom of LOOM: the audio device, sample rate, buffer, round trip latency, CPU, dropouts and the last MIDI message.
  12. DialogsLOOM's dialogs: save and open a song, the warning before you lose a take, the session log, and record setup for multitrack performance recording.
  13. Instrument tracksLoop MIDI on LOOM's instrument tracks with its own synth, drum machine and sampler. Change the sound while the loop plays, and undo overdubs pass by pass.
  14. Where your recordings liveEvery take in LOOM is a WAV file on your own disk. Where songs, loops and multitrack performance recordings are saved, and how to back them up.
  15. Your licenceHow LOOM's 14-day trial and one-time licence work. The licence is a file checked on your Mac at launch, with no account and no activation server.
  16. Reporting a problemIf LOOM does something you did not expect, it writes a report to a file you can send. What the report contains and where to send it.
